Without Work? Take Your Dream to Reality

I recently had a conversation with an individual who received a ‘pink slip’ from the company they had been employed at for more than a decade.  I came to know this individual through a mutual friend who knew I worked from home and wanted to know how they could take their skills and past experience and create their own home-based business.

If you are in this same position or know someone who is, perhaps this brief outline will help you get started.

  1. Assess your skills, even if you don’t have a degree you may still have skills that are marketable
  2. Do you have a business idea? Have you thoroughly researched it to see if it is in demand and profitable?
  3. Make sure the domain name is available.
  4. Pick a business name that uses a keyword that your target market is currently using.
  5. Make sure the business name is not registered by someone else, do so by checking your Secretary of State.
  6. Do not use a free hosting account, its not professional. May I suggest MomWebs.com for your hosting and/or ecommerce solution?

Creating and developing an online presence doesn’t happen over night so don’t buy into the “I made millions in 24 hours” junk. Take your time, do your research and enjoy every step along the way. If you live in Tuscarawas County Ohio and would like some direction, please contact me today. I’d love to help you take your business dream and make it a reality!

CPSIA Law- How Will This Affect You?

Just when we think our economy couldn’t get any worse, the CPSIA law comes into play on Feb.10, 2009. If this law is not rewritten it will have a devistating affect to our national and local communities. Not only will this law affect work from home parents, but also fundraisers that rely on craft shows and bizarres, but also to the people who regularly rely on second hand clothing stores to meet their clothing needs.

Merry Christmas! Buckeye Candy Recipe

There are many versions to this candy recipe, but I’m going to share my twist on it!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 pound confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1# Coating Chocolate

*Melt chocolate over double broiler. While that is melting you’ll want to cover your work area with waxed paper.

*In a large bowl, combine (your kiddos can do this step, if you over watch them) all of the above ingredients.

*Roll dough into quarter-sized balls, then roll each Buckeye into the chocolate, only covering 3/4th of the way so the peanut butter shows at the top.  I use a tooth pick to hold the Buckeye while rolling in chocolate.

*Once the Buckeye is covered with chocolate you’ll want to place it on the waxed paper for several hours, until the chocolate is firm.

Enjoy!!

Labor Day Memories

Yesterday the States celebrated Labor Day. What made it extra special for me and my family was it also marked what would have been the 8th birthday of our youngest “Fish” family member, Hannah Grace.

Hannah was born on September 1; baby-Fish #5, (all girls by the way!) we were so excited to have her as part of our family. She was truly the most happiest, calm baby I had ever seen.

Her story unfolds like this… she came into this world as quiet as you can imagine; squooshy, soft, chubby and calm! On her 1st birthday she ended getting a “chest cold” , this was treated by our physician, it went away, then came back about 3 weeks later; the cycle repeated itself until November 25, 2001 where we spent 12 hours at our local E.R.

At that time the current physician was ending her shift and the next doctor was beginning his shift. At that time, the entering physician came back to the observation room to do his rounds and noticed that the I.V fluid was entering Hannah’s body but was not exiting. The fluid was collecting around her heart..with that diagnosis she was life flighted to a Children’s Hospital 45 minutes away. It wasn’t until then that the heart specialists were called to work on her, it was then that we were told she was suffering from Cardio Myopathy.

A few short minutes later, on November 26, 2001; Hannah took her last breath with mommy and daddy by her side, as she entered Heaven’s gates to meet Jesus.

It wasn’t until that moment that I could get a clear view of Heaven, Gods purpose, the preciousness of life, the process of a vapor and the hope of eternity.

Every year on Hannah’s birthday we clean her stone, decorate it with something special, enjoy an ice cream dessert at a local restraurant and give thanks to the Lord for welcoming her home and giving us the ”Hope of Eternal Life” with Him.

God Bless,

The Longest Winter!

Ugh! It seems that winter just keeps dragging on and on! I think I need to move down South…somewhere warmer than Ohio.

How about you, has it been a long winter where you live? I don’t know about you, but I sure learn how to be a more patient person in the winter than any other season.

Here’s a recipe that will warm you up….

Pizza Crust Dough

Speghetti Sauce

Shredded Cheese (I use mozzerella)

Assorted Vegetables..

*Mix pizza dough as instructed. Spray large cookie sheet with spray oil. Press dough onto pan. Spread speghetti sauce all over dough. Sprinkle cheese. (now for the fun part) Arrange assorted veggies into shapes or one large smiley face…use your imagination.

Bake as directed and enjoy! Have a great weekend :)

Food Friday

1 Large bag of microwaveable popcorn ( I use Lite)

1 package of Macaroni & Cheese, cheese packet only

Directions:

Pop popcorn as directed. After popcorn is popped, sprinkle cheese inside bag with hot popcorn. Let the kids shake the bag and now you have hot cheese-flavored popcorn.  Now, go watch MONK :) or your personal favorite show.

Thanks! Steph
